The Proper Care and Feeding of Your Bedliner Spray Gun
If you own a truck, you know how important it is to protect your truck bed. There are a few ways you can do this. The two most prevalent ways are with drop in bedliners and spray on bedliners that are applied with a bedliner spray gun.
Most truck owners will tell you that the spray on truck liners offer protection that is infinitely better than the drop in bedliners. The fit that you can achieve with spray on bediners is much better. There is no daylight between the liner and the truck bed. The space that exists between the bedliner and the truck bed in the drop in variety can allow dust, dirt and other debris in that can cause a lot of damage to the truck bed, which is exactly what the bedliner is there to prevent. Because the bedliner covers up the problem areas, by the time the truck owner discovers the damage, it is very expensive to repair.
When you use a bedliner spray gun to apply a bedliner, you get a bedliner that molds itself completely to the truck bed. That space between the truck bed and the bedliner does not exist. You can also get a bedliner that matches your truck perfectly. Another benefit is that these are incredibly easy to put on. If you use wiretrim edge cutting tape, it is an almost foolproof exercise. In fact, wiretrim tape helps achieve a perfect edge.
How to Clean Your Bedliner Spray Gun:
It is important that you keep your bedliner spray gun clean but it has been developed to be easy to clean. Better yet, you do not have to use a lot of harsh or dangerous chemicals to get the result that you want. The tool has been developed to be easy to disassemble and reassemble so that you can get the entire apparatus very clean. They key here is to take care of this every time you apply a bedliner. Next, take the spray head and disassemble the spray head apparatus. Separate the turbine from the trigger. Set the cup aside. Take all of this and leave it to dry. When the material that is in there has become hardened, you may be surprised by how easy it is to remove.
When you are cleaning the draw tube apparatus, you will do something very similar. Begin by wiping down the entire apparatus. The best thing to use for this is denatured alcohol (on a clean rag). Use this to clean off the air screen, nozzle, nut and air cap. Put it aside and, again, let the material left in the apparatus to totally harden. If you place the apparatus with your nozzle facing downward, gravity will help remove the excess material. Take apart the trigger mechanism and then remove the spring and pin. You will note how easy it is to remove any left over bedliner material.
After everything is dry and clean, you have to put it all back together again. Luckily, this is not hard with modern bedliner spray guns.
- Put the o-ring back on the shaft tube.
- Reconnect the spring and the shaft.
- Attach the spring and shaft apparatus to the shaft tube.
- Attach the nut to the air cap.
- Take the nut and air cap assembly and attach that to the screen.
